FAQ

Finding Music

How do I find the right music?

There are several ways to look for music on our website. All tracks are intelligently tagged throughout different categories, like tempo, mood, genre etc.

• Using Search

You can use the Search bar in the top left corner to type what you are looking for. The search results will display matching tags as well as track titles and artist names.

• Using the Filter

Navigate to the Browse page (click Browse in the main navigation) and open the filter, located top left, below the search bar. You can now see all the available tags. Click one of the tags and you will be presented with the matching tracks. You can keep adding as many tags as you like and removing previously selected tags by clicking them again.

•Playlists

The playlists are a handy short cut to a combination of contemporary selections and our tried and tested favourites.

• Related Tracks

The related track feature allows us to suggest (or Combine or Connect) works across the catalogue that are appropriate but would otherwise be excluded via the refined keyword search. We have defined these as Complementary in style or feel, and Contrasting in mood but similar in nature.

Music Usage

Can anyone just download music and use it?

Not Exactly..

All the music on our site is available by anyone for any use, you are free to download any works however, you will need a licence to use it.

Music licensing is a legally complex business as there are several rights involved. The PRS MCPS production music deal allows a licensee to navigate these issues via a simple rate card which is set for all uses and agreed by all composers. As a provider of production music our licenses are provided by the PRS.

I am not registered with PRS / I live in the USA, how can I use a track from your library?

Please get in touch and we can provide you with a licence directly, for your particular requirement. Licensing can seem daunting but it does not need to be email info@usingmusic.com with your request.

Production music

What is production (or library) music?

Production Music or Library music is pre-cleared music for use on any media, for any term and in any country.

Music licensing is complicated. There are four rights involved every time any music is used; The right to copy or 'sync' a composition, the right to perform a composition, the right to copy/sync the recording, and the right to perform the recording.

In the world of commercial music each one of those rights can be controlled and administered by a different body, or agent. To add to the complexity this may change in different territories.

As a response to the needs of different media providers who wanted to use music in a reasonable and timely way, the production music library was created. All the rights required could be licensed from one place, and the fees were already agreed on a standardised rate card. All uses per 30 seconds and per territory are laid out.

Is library music always cheesy?
